Kids Program
Kids Program
The Kansas City Self Defense Studio Kansas City kids’ program offers a combination of fitness and focus to help develop confidence, discipline, respect and physical and mental competence through a variety of exercises and techniques designed to engage kids’ minds and bodies.
Our fitness program for Kansas City kids helps develop their physical strength, coordination and endurance. But the benefits of martial arts for children extend far beyond the physical. Today’s society is full of continuous audio and visual distractions. It’s critical to begin nurturing and encouraging focus and concentration as a habit from a young age. Our students develop a range of skills that enable them to succeed in all areas of life, including strong character, focused self-discipline and a healthy self-image.
Martial Arts Benefits for Kids
In addition to offering a fitness program for Kansas City kids, we also focus on developing character and building confidence. Confidence comes from an elevated sense of competence. Our self-defense program develops physical and mental competence through a variety of drills, exercises, and techniques designed to engage their minds and develop their physical strength, coordination, and endurance. This martial arts program also teaches respect and discipline. We focus on the student’s character development and elevating their self-confidence. Our program provides consistent incentives to keep the student engaged as they work their way toward stronger self-defense skills and earning their Black Belt. Our students enjoy earning patches to decorate their uniform with their achievements. Students advance at their own pace in our fitness program for Kansas City kids, without the pressure that is often a big part of competitive team sports. At APLOMB Kansas City, we work hard to make your child’s experience with martial arts a safe, fun and productive one.
Our APLOMB Martial Arts kids’ program will help kids improve their:
Coordination
Flexibility
Focus & Concentrations Skills
Respect (for themselves & others)
Self-Control
Self-Esteem
Strength & Endurance
Children’s Anti-bullying Program
There is a common misconception that martial arts training will make a child violent. In fact, the opposite is true: Violent tendencies come from a combination of frustration and anger. A good martial arts program will develop self-confidence and control by building competence in a variety of physical and mental activities.
Martial arts can help kids learn how to handle conflict and bullying. Contrary to popular belief, self-defense is not purely about brute force or overpowering an assailant. Many kids today feel that their only option is to accept bullying, but our students learn that they have many good choices when confronted by a bully.
Students learn how to use their energy in a positive manner and not to be aggressive toward others. Experts agree that, rather than promoting violence, martial arts help build a solid foundation of self-confidence and a healthy sense of self-worth. The core philosophy of APLOMB Martial Arts training is non-violence. Our training enables students to respond in a calm and controlled way that will stop, rather than escalate conflict, should it arise.
Martial Arts Can Help Kids with ADHD & Autism
Many parents whose children have attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism report great success with martial arts programs because self-control and concentration, which are skills that martial arts teach, are exactly the skills that kids with ADHD need to develop. Martial arts also can provide aggressive children with a healthy way to work out their aggression. The intense mental and physical involvement required to participate in martial arts classes allows ADHD children to immerse themselves in the activity. This can help them complete the activity, which boosts their self-esteem and self-confidence. Children with autism can benefit, too. A 2010 study from the University of Wisconsin found that autistic children who participated in martial arts were a lot more social with their peers, and their physical coordination and self-esteem improved, as well.
Martial Arts is not about fighting; It’s about building character.
